Pre-operative evaluation, teaching and testing is necessary before your operation.
Your doctor may arrange to have this done in the Surgical Preparation Center
(SPC) located on the fourth floor of the St. Joseph Mercy Reichert Health
Center, Suite 4005. You will meet with a nurse to help you prepare for your
hospital stay and answer any questions. The nurse will review your health history
and coordinate your testing. These tests must be done in advance of your operation
so your doctor may review them. A physical exam, if requested by your doctor,
may also be performed during your visit. Bring this book to your pre-operative
visit. Testing and registration may be done as early as 30 days before your
operation. Registration information, including medical insurance information,
will be obtained by telephone before your visit. If a Patient Financial Services
representative is unable to reach you by phone, this will be done at the time
of your pre-operative visit. A hospital representative will contact your insurance
before your admission to verify benefits and identify any costs you may have
to pay.
