St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital has a 24-hour Emergency Observation Center (EOC) adjacent to the emergency department. The EOC provides an alternative to discharge or hospital inpatient admission for patients age 16 or older that may require further monitoring, diagnostic evaluation, and/or treatment prior to discharge. The most common condition for patients placed in the EOC is chest pain. Health professionals, nurses and physicians work collaboratively to provide the most comprehensive patient-centered care and services to the community.  The chest pain unit is backed by highly regarded cardiologists and cardiac surgeons and a comprehensive range of cardiac services available at our hospital.
