Saint Joseph Mercy Health System houses two Institutional Review Boards, IRB#1 and IRB#2, the Oncology Research IRB. The primary responsibility of the IRB is to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects in research. In doing so, the IRB monitors human subject research to determine that it is conducted ethically and in compliance with institutional and Federal regulations, the requirements of applicable law, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System’s Assurance, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System’s policies and procedures.
IRB#1 is chaired by James Mitchner, M.D., and meets on the first Tuesday of the month. Darlene Wahlberg provides staff support for IRB #1.
IRB#2, the OCIRB, is chaired by Andrew Eisenberg, M.D., and meets on the third Thursday of the month. Trista Koehler provides staff support for IRB #2.
SJMHS has conflict of interest policies and procedures for staff physicians and associates that conduct research that are designed to ensure that all potential conflicts are accurately reported, promptly considered and properly addressed by SJMHS FCOI officials. Our policies require our staff physicians and those engaged in conduct of research to regularly disclose and update interests that may pose a conflict. One or more authorities within SJMHS, such as the IRB and the Research Financial Conflict of Interest Committee, formally review all disclosures.
