Saint Joseph Mercy Health System’s Department of Surgery includes surgeons
who specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons are well prepared to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries and defects
that involve the oral and maxillofacial regions. After a four-year graduate
degree in dentistry, the surgeons complete four or more years of hospital-based
surgical residency training. While best known for extracting wisdom teeth, they
also treat accident victims, offer reconstructive and dental implant surgery
and care for patients with tumors or cysts. Surgery at SJMHS is provided on
an inpatient or outpatient basis depending on the type of surgery. All staff
surgeons are certified with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical care at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System includes:
- Reconstructive jaw surgery
- Treatment of jaw fractures and facial trauma
- Diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology
- Treatment for disorders of the temporomandibular joints (TMJ)
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are the surgical specialists of the dental
profession. Our surgeons perform approximately 150 oral surgery procedures each
year at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.
