The PGY-1 Residency Program at St Joseph Mercy Hospital has been providing
quality training since 1998 and expanded to two positions in 2007. The program
is supported by preceptors who are actively involved in patient care in their
respective specialty areas.
Comprehensive clinical services are provided to all inpatient hospital units
by a team of Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, Clinical Pharmacists, and PGY-1
Residents. These services span the continuum of care, and often include participation
in interdisciplinary rounding teams. A dedicated team of staff pharmacists and
technicians provide Central Pharmacy services. The entire department is supported
by state-of-the-art information systems and technology, including computerized
physician order entry (CPOE), automated dispensing cabinets, and robotic preparation
of sterile products.
Additional program benefits include:
- Flexible scheduling designed to meet the individual
interests of the resident
- Frequent interactions with preceptors
- BLS and ACLS certification
Residents complete four core rotations and four elective rotations.
The Core rotations are 5-6 weeks in duration and the length of each elective
rotation is adjusted to meet the needs of the resident.
