Kyle Achatz, COTA, KTP Kyle obtained an Associate degree from Schoolcraft College and is a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. She began her career with SJMHS in 1994. Kyle is certified by the Kinesio Taping Association as a practitioner and has extensive experience with hand therapy, acute occupational therapy and the work hardening program. Kyle works in the Return to Work Program as well as the Canton Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation location. |

Mary E. Barden, OTR, KTP Mary is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. She is a registered occupational therapist (OTR) and has completed the requirements to become certified through the Kinesio Taping Association as a practitioner. Mary has been with St. Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) since 1994. She specializes in industrial therapy and administers functional capacity evaluations to injured workers. Mary establishes an individual work-reconditioning program to assist the injured worker in a successful transition back into the work force. Mary performs other assessments such as: job analysis, work site and office ergonomic assessments, and job coaching to ensure the individual is working in a safe environment. She provides education on protective body mechanics and on job symptom management. Mary is a member of the SJMHS injury prevention work group and workplace safety committee. |

Kevern Hartmann, MPT, CMT, CLT Kevern graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in 1984, and received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Hahnemann University in 1995. She is a certified massage therapist (1989) and a certified lymphedema therapist (2007). Kevern has worked in acute care, outpatient orthopedic, and inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation settings. Before joining the lymphedema team at the Ann Arbor SJMH facility in October 2009, Kevern treated lymphedema patients at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and Chelsea Community Hospital. She has a special interest in Breast Cancer Rehabilitation. |

Sharon Hier-Wellmer, MS, OTR Sharon is a registered occupational therapist (OTR) with a Master’s degree from Wayne State University. She has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) since 1987. Sharon specializes in treating the neurologically impaired patients. Her approach to treatment includes strengthening, coordination, cognitive/perceptual, vision, and activities of daily living, pre-driver screenings and home evaluations. Sharon provides education in proper body mechanics, adaptive equipment and fall prevention. She is a certified driver evaluator, Car Fitt instructor and a member of the SJMHS fall prevention work group. |

Cecilia Hoeft, OTR Cecilia is a graduate of Western Michigan University and is a registered occupational therapist (OTR) and has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1994. Cecilia specializes in the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients using neurodevelopmental, biomechanical and role acquisitional frames of reference to maximize independence in self-care, activities of daily living and community re-entry - including driving assessments and employment. Cecilia’s prior experience includes work with children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental illness. |

Caroline Schultz, MS, OTR Caroline has a master’s degree from Western Michigan University and is a registered occupational therapist (OTR). She has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1989. Caroline has a diverse background in occupational therapy; working with pediatrics, diabetic/cardiac rehabilitation and injured workers in both the industrial setting and clinic setting. Her background also includes hand rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation and neurological rehabilitation, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Caroline works predominantly with neurological patients and the occasional pediatric patient. She is a certified driver evaluator and co-presenter of the biannual Mature Driver’s program, which is sponsored by the Traffic Improvement Association and AAA. |

Brenda Boyd, CTRS Brenda is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1995. She has experience in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and specializes in the evaluation and treatment of people with traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular accident (CVA-Stroke), and orthopedic injuries. Brenda’s treatment focuses on offering skills and tools needed to independently function in society by enhancing physical, cognitive, social and affective development through both individual and group treatment settings. These settings may include aquatic exercise, leisure education/activities, relaxation activities, conditioning exercises, horticulture activities, and community reintegration. |

Susan Finley, BFA, MSW, LMSW Susan has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan and is a licensed medical social worker (LMSW). She has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 2007 and has been the case coordinator and social worker for the Traumatic Brain Injury Day Treatment service since 2008. Susan has extensive experience as a social worker, working in schools and clinics in Michigan and at the Colorado Indian reservation for eleven years. |

Denyce Girard Kerner, PhD Dr. Kerner has been employed as a psychologist with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1991. Denyce has also been a Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) surveyor for 16 years and is frequently sought as an expert witness. She oversees multidisciplinary treatment services for the brain injured in the day treatment program, providing psychotherapy on adjustment to injury/illness, and performs neuropsychology evaluations in addition to acting as the clinical leader of the Joyce M. Massey Traumatic Brain Injury Day Treatment Services. Dr. Kerner received her doctorate from Kent State University. |

Evan Howard Cohen, PhD Dr. Cohen has been employed as a psychologist at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) since 1998. He is currently working as a neurophysiologist on the SJMHS Rehabilitation Unit and is responsible for neuropsychological evaluations, behavioral interventions, caregiver training and occasional applied research. Evan also provides outpatient neuropsychological evaluations and consultations. Dr. Cohen received his doctorate from State University of New York. |

David Hurst, MS David has a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1988. Dave is currently employed as a psychometrician and does neuropsychological testing for the rehabilitation psychology services. He assesses cognitive brain function in those individuals with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, as well as other neurological diagnoses. |

Maria Alcini PT, CLT Maria is a graduate of University of Michigan and has over twenty years of experience in the treatment of patients with neurological, orthopedic, pediatric, and lymphedema diagnoses. She is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and applies these specialized skills to her patients in the Lymphedema clinic located in the Reichert Health Center. Maria is strongly committed to pursuing continuing clinical education, and has taken a number of courses offered through the Great Lake Institute, Upledger, and Klose Institutes, as well as several courses given by Dr. Mitchell, DO and Dr Sanda, DO. Maria has found that the application of craino-sacral therapy along with other therapeutic interventions to be beneficial to her patients. In Maria’s free time she pursues hobbies that focus on physical fitness such as women's soccer, dance, and roller blading.

Neha S. S. Dean, MS, PT, MBA Neha is a licensed physical therapist and has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 2004. She has comprehensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient neurological settings. Neha’s emphasis includes the evaluation and treatment of young adults, adults and geriatric individuals primarily diagnosed with conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, amputees (including prosthetic training) and multiple traumas. Her continuing education includes prosthetics and amputee rehabilitation, geriatric neurology, balance retraining and neuro developmental treatment approaches to functional activities in standing and gait. Neha emphasizes the importance of teaching clients effective ways to optimize functional return and live a more independent life style. |

Ann Kovacs, PT Ann is a graduate of Northern Illinois University's physical therapy curriculum. She has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) since 2007, working in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient settings. Ann currently works with the Traumatic Brain Injury Day Treatment Program and outpatient services. Ann’s interests include pursuing certification for vestibular rehabilitation and continuing to improve manual therapy skills using muscle energy techniques and myofascial release. She is a member of the SJMHS fall prevention work group. |

Kelly M. Tomaszewski, PT, ATP Kelly is a graduate of Marquette University's physical therapy curriculum and is certified as an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP). She has been Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 1993. Previously Kelly had been practicing in home care since 1989. She specializes in the treatment of gait and balance dysfunction by utilizing a variety of treatments including neurodevelopmental techniques, dynamic balance activities and gait training. Kelly also encourages patient and caregiver education to maximize patient independence in their environment. |

Jennifer L. Brown, MA, CCC-SLP Jennifer has a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. She has a certificate of clinical competence in speech language pathology (CCC-SLP) and has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) since 1986. Jennifer specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients who have been diagnosed with: cerebral vascular accident (CVA-Stroke), traumatic brain injury, vocal cord polyps/nodules/paralysis, paradoxical vocal cord dysfunction, stuttering, cleft palate, childhood apraxia of speech, articulation disorders secondary to developmental speech delay and dysarthria. She is a member of the SJMHS Injury prevention work group and coordinates the Think First Program for SJMHS. |

Sue Jackson, MA, CCC-SLP Sue has a master’s degree from Michigan State University. She has a certificate of clinical competence in speech language pathology (CCC-SLP). Sue began her career with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in 1990. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with: traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular accident (CVA-Stroke), aphasia, apraxia, and dysarthria, right hemisphere disorders, voice (including vocal cord dysfunction), dysphagia and delayed speech. |

Jennifer has been with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System since 2004 and has experience in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients who have been diagnosed with: traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular accident (CVA-Stroke) and subsequent speech disorders such as aphasia, apraxia, and dysarthria as well as developmental speech delay.
