Judy Ivan Healthy Communities Endowment Seeks Saline-Area Applicants

SALINE, Mich. (Jan. 17, 2014) – St. Joseph Mercy Saline is calling for applicants for the
Judy Ivan Healthy Communities Endowment. Applications are due Friday,
March 21, 2014.

The Endowment’s philosophy is "to assist community groups within the St. Joseph Mercy Saline service area with financial resources for projects or initiatives that will make a positive difference in the health status of the community.”

Generally, the Endowment makes grants to local community groups and schools in Clinton, Dundee, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan and Saline communities. The availability of funding is not impacted by the upcoming conversion of St. Joseph Mercy Saline from an Emergency Department to a 12-hour Urgent Care Center. Funding will continue to be available to eligible programs.

“This is an exciting opportunity for St. Joe's to partner with Saline-area non-profits to improve the health of our communities," said Fran Petonic, vice president for Development for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. "This endowment is a lasting source of support that will fund community programs into perpetuity."

The Endowment supports innovative projects that address community needs. Eligible projects that fall within these categories include: health and welfare, education and prevention programs. Funds may be requested for health education materials, supplies, equipment, speakers, project staff, health events and other expenses to provide interventions and education.

Projects or interventions sponsored by local community health coalitions or school-based health initiatives that are undertaken in partnership with each other and/or other groups within the community are encouraged and will be given priority status for available funds.

Finally, all projects must be consistent with the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System mission statement and values: We, CHE Trinity Health, serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our communities; Reverence, Commitment to Those Who are Poor, Justice, Stewardship and Integrity.
