Nutrition Sponsorship at Eastern Market

Detroit, MI – Aug. 14, 2014 – Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) has committed to a $50,000 annual contribution for the next three years to support Eastern Market’s efforts to improve food access. Through this support, SJMHS will serve as the Nutrition sponsor of the Friends of Eastern Market program.

“Saint Joseph Mercy Health System's support has allowed us to increase the number of Farm Stands at community sites, such as the Samaritan Center, which offers a multi-faceted health resource center for those in Detroit neighborhoods who may be unable to afford such services,” shared Tracy Rivard, director of development, Eastern Market Corporation.

“We are very grateful to SJMHS for their support which allows us to expand our impact.”

This strategic partnership with SJMHS enables the Market to expand food access and nutrition education thus improving access to healthy, green, affordable and fair food choices in Detroit and throughout Southeast Michigan.

“Partnering with Eastern Market allows both organizations the opportunity to strengthen and expand our mutual efforts to improve access to healthy food and promote wellness throughout southeast Michigan,” said Saint Joseph Mercy Health System President and CEO Garry C. Faja.

“Through this sponsorship, we help put healthy food and nutritional information right into the hands of community residents to improve overall health.”
