MTS - The medical teaching service is our core general medicine inpatient service. Each MTS team includes one core faculty attending, one senior resident, 2-3 interns, and 2 medical students. All key subspecialties use MTS as a hospitalist service. This service provides a rich and diverse experience when rotating on medicine. There is no overnight call on the MTS rotation. Schedules strictly adhere to ACGME requirements to optimize learning. Since July 1, 2010 our MTS schedules are in full compliance with the proposed 2011 duty hours standards.
TOC (Transition Of Care) - 2-week rotation, PGY2 resident works with a PGY3 on MTS. The role of the TOC resident is to Provide in-depth education for patients prior to discharge as well as co-ordination of care at discharge with proper post-discharge follow-up.
MICU - The medical intensive care team is comprised of an intensivist, three senior residents, five interns, and 1-2 medical students. Rounding occurs in a multidisciplinary approach, including respiratory therapists, pharmacists and nutritionists. Procedures are abundant without competing fellows.
Inpatient Cardiology – two-week rotations
Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with additional step-down coverage. Team includes a cardiologist, a senior resident, two interns, and up to 1 medical student. Our catheterization lab has high volume activity, rivaling most surrounding hospitals.
Cardiology Consult Service: 2 weeks of inpatient cardiology consults, where the team evaluates a multitude of cardiac problems, and develops management plans under the direct supervision of attending cardiologists.
Star/Night Float - Senior residents triage and staff new admissions. The night float residents/interns work independently in the hospital with attending supervision available if requested.
Ambulatory/Intensive AIM – These rotations provide in-depth training in outpatient/ambulatory medicine. In addition to added continuity experience, residents rotate through relevant sub-specialties: student health (at Eastern Michigan University), urology, orthopedics/sports medicine, dermatology, etc. Unique, resident driven, teaching on outpatient topics is provided on a weekly basis to supplement the experience. Procedure skills workshops (joint injection, skin biopsy), quality improvement projects and communication skills (video reviews) are important educational experiences during these rotations.
Electives - Sub-specialists show a particularly keen interest and enthusiasm in teaching. Indeed, they seek out our hospital not only for our diverse patient population, but also for the opportunity to teach medical students and residents. Electives include the following (they do not include call):
