Saint Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor offers a variety of pain management services, including:
Saint Joseph Mercy Pain Institute
As one of Southeast Michigan's most successful programs, our team of specialists use a collaborative approach to diagnose pain and develop a customized treatment plan. Our comprehensive pain management plans may consist of a single approach or a combination of medications, therapies and procedures.
Our primary clinic is conveniently located right on the campus of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor.
We have many A4 Pain Management locations in Livingston, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
We believe that communication with your primary care and referring physicians is a priority and ensures continuity of care, that's why our specialty service is referral only.
Our pain management staff includes board certified pain specialists emphasizing evidence-based medicine. We recognize that acute and chronic pain is often dependent on many factors, requiring coordination of care between nurses, physician assistants, other medical specialists and often includes psychological support.
Our collaborative approach
Pain and Rehabilitation Specialists
As physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors (also called physiatrists), APM&R doctors are specialists in treating pain and helping patients recover lost function. They have 10–30 years of experience each in multiple specialty areas of physical medicine, and several have been named among the Best Doctors in America® for a number of years.
Treating the Whole Person
APM&R physicians can also assemble and coordinate a team of physicians and specialists across multiple practice areas that can help the patient with cognitive and emotional problems, along with physical issues. This enables us to achieve the goal of helping the person to become as independent as possible with the function that they have available and to help the family, school or workplace understand how to assist the patient as well. Our approach supports physical medicine doctors’ emphasis on treating the whole person, rather than just the problem area.
Non-Surgical Treatment Options
In addition, the doctors at Associates in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offer both traditional and non-traditional treatment options for pain, injury and disease, including:
Ann Arbor Spine Center
Ann Arbor Spine Center specializes in improving care for back and neck patients while emphasizing nonsurgical options. Our practice consists of board-certified surgical specialists specializing in spine (neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons) as well as non-surgical specialists and physical therapists.
The center is able to care for any type of back or neck problem, from simple back/ neck strain to the most complex spine surgery. All the necessary diagnostic testing and non-operative treatments can be found under one roof, eliminating the need for multiple referrals, delayed care and confusion.
PMR physicians have advanced training in non-surgical treatment of spine problems and focus on understanding how posture, walking, standing and sitting affect the spine.
When back or neck problems require surgery, the spine specialized neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons treat the most complex cases including herniated discs, spinal fractures, spinal deformity, spinal tumor and scoliosis.
