Getting ready for your first baby? Or, do you just need some refresher training as you welcome the newest addition to your family? The staff at the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Family Birth Center is ready to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to prepare before, during and after your baby's arrival.

Boot Camp for New Dads
'Men Only' class for expectant fathers, taught by a father, that teaches first time dads practical information on parenthood, baby care, becoming a family and supporting the new mom.

Boot Camp for New Moms
This prenatal class designed for women expecting their first baby. You’ll learn lots of practical information on not only surviving but enjoying those first few weeks at home with baby, caring for yourself and nurturing your relationships. This is NOT an infant care class, but a class for women preparing for motherhood! Held at the same time/place as Boot Camp for New Dads. Register for each class separately. Please feel free to bring a snack and beverage as needed.

Breastfeeding Club
Free, drop-in, informal monthly meeting for pregnant or breastfeeding moms and their babies (older siblings welcome too!). No registration needed. Register for an upcoming Breastfeeding Club class

Breastfeeding Preparation Class
Instructs expectant mothers and their partners on breastfeeding techniques. Partners are encouraged to attend. Only 1 registration needed. 1 Partner attends free!

Childbirth Education Class
We offer an intensive one day and 4-evening series of labor and delivery preparation classes for expectant mothers and their labor support coach. Information regarding natural childbirth techniques, relaxation exercises, medical intervention and Caesarean births are included. Only 1 registration needed.
1 Partner/Coach attends free!

CPR: Family & Friends
This two and a half hour course is designed for adults who do not need certification but wish to learn basic lifesaving CPR skills. Includes information on Infant, Child and Adult CPR, AED use, as well as how to respond if someone is choking.

Family Birth Center Tours
A walking tour of the Family Birth Center. Only 1 registration needed.

Infant Care Class
Class for expectant parents to learn about basic newborn care. Focus is on the first two weeks of life, and includes information on feeding, burping, bonding, diapering, bathing, infant safety and much more! Only 1 registration need. 1 Partner/support person attends free!

Mommy & Me
Free, 'drop-in' monthly meeting for new mothers and their babies on the first Wednesday of every Month (except January & July) from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Women's Health Center. Informal discussion with other new moms, sharing ideas and strategies about motherhood! No registration needed.

Breastfeeding Support
If you are having difficulty or concerns with breastfeeding while in the hospital, your nurse or certified lactation consultant can assist you by calling 734-712-6357.

Pregnancy Planning
There's plenty to learn even before you become pregnant. If you're thinking about having a baby, consider setting up a preconceptual visit with an obstetrical provider. For a referral to a St. Joseph Mercy obstetrician/gynecologist, certified nurse midwife or family practitioner who provides obstetrical care, please call Saint Joseph Mercy HealthLine at 734-712-5400 or 800-231-2211. You can also register for a class or birth center tour or request a free guide to preconception care.

Videos on Request
During your hospital stay, you can also learn a variety of useful information from health education videos right in your room! Ask your nurse or care assistant for a list of videos available for viewing.
